For centuries, harvesting ice was the only means of refrigerating perishable food items. If you lived in the United States, chances are you’d be relying on ice harvesters throughout New England to intricately pack the ice and make ready for a long transport. As you can imagine, shipping ice all across the country can be arduous and costly (even before you consider the loss of product while in transit).

It wasn’t until 1835, when the first patent was granted for a Vapor-Compression Refrigeration Cycle. Over the years, technology has vastly improved and almost everyone can recall growing up with a refrigerator in their own homes. As with many items that have become commonplace, we sometimes take for granted the amount of thought which went into the design and may overlook the importance of regular maintenance on the equipment after it has been installed. How To Prevent Slipping on Ice This Winter

Salting Winter Sidewalks

Slip and falls represent a huge liability for business owners. Outdoor surfaces, such as parking lots, sidewalks and walkways, are one of the leading areas for slip and fall accidents. These areas become increasingly more hazardous in the winter with the accumulation of snow and ice. The National Floor Safety Institute is focused on providing the general public with an educated awareness to the problems of slip and fall injuries. There are many preventive measures that can help to avoid these terrible accidents. It only takes one fall to completely alter the life of a victim.

Slip and fall accidents happen every day and should be a significant cause of concern in both the summer and winter months. In 2009, the total costs of slip and fall accidents was $60 billion, but that number has continued to rise. Today, these accidents account for nearly $80 billion.

Injuries as a result of a slip, trip or fall are the leading cause of injury-related emergency room visits. Unfortunately, the general public is sometimes led to believe all slip, trip and fall injuries are scams. This is not true.
