Many changes take place in our bodies and minds as we age. This requires employers to take steps to adapt the workplace and jobs before an injury occurs. The key to keeping an aging workplace safe is having a manager, administrator, safety or health professional who understands the value of an aging workforce as well as the risks facing older employees. Management should also be asking some key questions like: How is an aging workforce affecting employee productivity? And what are some strategies that employers are implementing to accommodate the aging workforce?

Benefits of Stretching at Work

I recently worked with fellow team members developing and presenting a stretching webinar. We needed to get the word out on the benefits of stretching at work and in our personal lives. Stretching is good for all walks of life including restaurant, hotel, factory, and construction workers. I decided to “practice what I preach” and made a conscious effort to stretch throughout the day. It helped make snow shoveling more tolerable this winter. And it even improved my sleep. I stretch before going to sleep every night and find myself more relaxed and sleeping better. Try it for yourself; you’ll be surprised at the results!

Teaching Safety in a Seemingly Safe Environment

Workers in different industries are exposed to a variety of unique risk factors that could affect their health and wellness. But no matter if you’re lifting heavy boxes or sitting at an office desk, all workers have the right to working conditions that do not pose a risk of serious harm. This is where ergonomics come into play. Good ergonomics adapt the job to fit the person, rather than forcing the person to fit the job. Protecting employees from ergonomic injuries should be a top priority for all businesses. However, no business can ever be injury-proof, and accidents can happen even with the proper safety procedures and training in place.

Staying Healthy and Happy During the Holiday Season

While the holidays are a time to indulge in some sweet treats while surrounded by loved ones, it’s common for many people to gain unwanted weight throughout that time. So, how can you enjoy these salivating treats, while staying healthy during the holidays? The key is moderation. You do not have to say no to these temptations, but do indulge conservatively. Instead of waiting for the buffet lunch or dinner, keep eating normal, balanced meals throughout the day.
