3 Ways to Make More Time for Yourself

Finding that you need more time in your day is a problem for almost everyone. I mean, come on, you get up early, work all day, hurry home to spend time with your family while making dinner and getting ready for what tomorrow may bring…and then there’s finding the time to get enough sleep?! Oh, and don’t forget about the gym – that’s supposed to fit in there, too.

It can be extremely overwhelming. That’s why we have put together a list of tips to help you fit all of your competing priorities into your crazy day.

  1. Just say NO.

It’s okay to say “no” to obligations you don’t want to fulfill. Pick and choose activities that are truly beneficial or that make you happy. Tired of sitting on the board for your neighborhood association? Then step down! Your time is very valuable and there is no need to waste it. Just because you feel you should do something, doesn’t mean you have to, and it is A-Okay to let go.

  1. Stop keeping up with the Jones’.

Once you acknowledge that it’s okay to say no to others, it’s also time to consider saying no to society as a whole. This culture we live in is full of over-commitment and over-scheduling, and frankly it is complete madness. The key here is learning to simplify your life, which might require you to take a step back and question a few things. For example, do you really need to drive across town for this meeting or event? Or can you sit this one out and lessen the work you are creating for yourself.

  1. Give yourself permission.

Many of us have that desire to say no to something, but then we feel guilty so we don’t. Keep on fighting that guilt because being honest with yourself is extremely important, and far from selfish. You will be amazed with how much more time you have to do the things you enjoy when you finally start letting go.

Integrating these three tips will take some practice – but don’t worry, you will find a balance that works for you. Now go take back that time!
